# Glossary

> Crypto terms from the docs, explained in plain language: wallet addresses, networks, memos, hashes, and more.

Twelve terms used in these docs, in plain language.

**Wallet address**
The identifier of your wallet on a network. A string of letters and numbers, like an account number. Anyone can send coins to it. Only the wallet's owner can spend from it.

**Network**
The blockchain a transfer happens on: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and so on. The same coin can exist on several networks, and they don't interoperate. Sending on the wrong one usually means the transfer can't complete automatically.

**Confirmation**
A network's way of marking a transfer as final. Most networks confirm in seconds to minutes. Bitcoin can take longer. A swap waits for confirmations before moving on.

**Transaction hash**
The unique receipt of a transfer on a network. Your wallet shows it after you send. Support can use it to find your transfer.

**Deposit address**
The address we generate for your swap. Send your coins there, and only there. Each swap gets its own instructions. Don't reuse addresses from old swaps.

**Memo / destination tag**
An extra identifier some networks attach to a transfer, used mostly by exchanges and hosted wallets to credit the right account. XRP, Stellar, and Cosmos use them.

**Quote**
The offer you see before you swap: the rate and the amount you'll receive. Quotes are live and expire after a short window, shown on the swap page.

**Floating rate**
A rate that moves with the market until your deposit confirms. The final amount can differ slightly from the estimate, in either direction.

**Network fee**
What a blockchain charges to process a transfer. It goes to the network, not to LightSwap or your wallet. Fees rise when a network is busy.

**Service fee**
What executing a swap costs. On LightSwap it's built into the quoted rate, so the number you see is the number you pay.

**Non-custodial**
No one holds your money for you. Coins move from your wallet, through the swap, to your wallet.

**Cross-chain swap**
A swap where the two assets live on different networks, such as BTC for SOL. It takes longer because two networks must confirm.
